E Juice and What Is Ejuice

Ejuice and the breakdown of what is "eJuice"

One of the biggest trends to take off in the last couple of years is vaping. Chances are you’ve at least heard of it, and it’s likely that you’ve seen people doing it while walking or driving through town. We’ve all seen vaporizers. They typically consist of a metal battery called a mod and a mouthpiece called an atomizer.

These are visible and are therefore considered to be, at least for the most part, commonly understood. However, there seems to be more confusion around the vapor itself. Specifically, there’s a lot of confusion about what E Juice is. E-Juice is the source of the vapor clouds you see people blowing. It starts as a liquid, and through a process of heat and atomization becomes vapor.

What are the ingredients in E Juice?

Now that we’ve covered exactly what E Juice is, let’s talk about what’s in it. There are four main ingredients that you’ll typically find in E Juice, and depending on your supplier, your E-Juice may contain any combination of them. We should begin with the base substance, which will almost always be either Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerin.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol is a thin, odorless liquid that is the ideal E Juice base for many. Because of its thin consistency, it makes cleaning your device much easier and less frequent. The feeling in the mouth and throat is very similar to that of a cigarette, making it perfect for those who are switching from smoking to vaping.

However, this substance does tend to dry out the mouth and lungs with regular use, making it slightly uncomfortable to some. Others have even gone so far as to say that they have severe allergic reactions to propylene glycol, totally disqualifying it as a suitable E Juice base for those people. Luckily, there’s also vegetable glycerin.

Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable glycerin, as opposed to propylene glycol, is a thicker, sweeter base. The sweet taste isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but some are bound to like it more than others. It results in a good taste, but it can sometimes mask a little of the flavor if the concentration is too high, making various E-Juices harder to identify by taste.

Unlike propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin isn’t known to cause the user to develop a dry mouth and throat. The only way to truly determine which PG/VG ratio is right for you is to try them for yourself.

Flavor

The flavor is the ingredient in E Juice that makes vaping so enjoyable. Unlike cigarettes, E-Juice comes in thousands of different flavors that are accessible to anyone with an internet connection. If there’s a flavor that you want, chances are that it’s out there

Nicotine

Last but certainly not least is the psychoactive ingredient that is most responsible for the love surrounding E-Juice:  Nicotine Liquid. The flavors are great, but at the end of the day, people vape for the great feeling that comes from Nicotine. Everything else just adds to the experience.

A very common grievance among those that are new to vaping is the confusion surrounding the varying nicotine levels in E-Juices. The amount of nicotine in a cigarette can vary greatly. Some cigarettes contain as little as 0 to 3 milligrams of nicotine whereas others may contain as much as 24 milligrams. Therefore, finding a standard by which to base E Juice nicotine level can be difficult at first.

Trial and error are going to be your greatest assets when it comes to finding the perfect nicotine level. To give you somewhere to start, let’s look at the most common nicotine levels, who they’re likely to be used by, and what the effects are.

12 mg – 24 mg is a considerably high nicotine level for vaping. It’s intended mostly for heavy smokers or those that just really enjoy the effects of nicotine.

6 mg is a very common nicotine level, used by light to moderate smokers. It’s a good, middle ground nicotine level that many people seem to prefer, making it one of the most popular nicotine levels for E Juice in general.

3 mg is typically considered a pretty weak dose, but that isn’t to say that it’s unpopular. A lot of people really enjoy the act of vaping in itself and want to be able to do it more often to get the same effects.

0 mg means there’s absolutely no nicotine in your E-Juice. It isn’t the most popular option, as most people want at least minor effects from vaping, but that isn’t to say it’s uncommon. Like I said before, there are people who just enjoy the act of vaping.

This is all the basics of E-Juice, but there’s definitely a lot more to learn along the way! Remember, there’s not necessarily an “ideal” E Juice. Trial and error are the only real ways to find what’s right for you, but hopefully, you now have a better idea of what you’re looking for.
