Vape Tank Leaks

As vape owners, there is one problem that unites us all. One mechanical fault that joins all of us in anger and frustration, as raise our clenched fists to the sky. And that issue is discovering your vape tank leaking.

If you've ever struggled with a vape pen that won't stop leaking, you understand that it can spoil the entire experience.

Finding a fix that works can be a struggle, for starters, especially if you're not lucky enough to be a trained vape repairman. These pens are more popular now than they ever have been, and come in hundreds of unique designs and configurations. That means dozens of potential problems, all with their own unique solutions.

So, what is there to do? Take your vape pen into an expensive repair shop? Throw it out and buy a new one? As it turns out, there are some better options out there, and many of them come down to just using your device better. So join us today, as we take a closer look at your vape, why it's leaking, and how to fix it.

Why Is My Vape Pen Leaking?

"Why does my vape leak?" It's a question that's come up in vaping households across the country for years. These leaks are frustrating to deal with. They get liquid everywhere, it discourages you from using your device, and who knows where to even go to get it fixed?

Luckily for you, this is usually a pretty easy problem to fix. It all starts with gauging the severity of the leak, which is variable. Some leakages can be as mild as a few e-liquid droplets here and there. Others may be as severe as liquid running out of a crack in the mod almost immediately after pouring it in.

For the record, a vape tank should do a consistently good job at holding e-liquids. So, when a leak does occur, it's usually a sign of problems with the tank's airflow system.

Not familiar with the details of your vape device? Let us break it down a bit: air flows through the holes next to the coil, and the coil heats the juice contained in the wick.

But is your coil leak stopping your e-liquid from heating up? What about ruined wicks or a poor seal on the tank itself? Often, investing in a cheaply manufactured or knockoff tank is the root cause of a leak such as these.

But, as we've said, vape tank leaks can arise from design flaws, user errors, and any variety of accidental breakages. Luckily, though, there are several ways to prevent and stop tank leaks, depending on your specific needs.

Filling You Tank With Vape Juice

While you might not expect it, the most common cause of vape tanks leaking is user incorrectly refilling the tank. So, let's break down the best way to use your device so you can avoid having to ask "Why is my vape leaking?" ever again. Not to mention, no one likes to waste excellent Vape Liquids due to a leaky tank!

When filling the tank, be careful to never accidentally overfill with or spill your e-liquid into the chimney. For those new to the terminology, the chimney is a tube leading through the center of the tank and into the mouthpiece. When e-liquid is poured into the chimney, the tank will begin to gurgle and sputter this liquid.

Of course, accidents do happen. If you accidentally put juice in the chimney of the tank, you can clean it out with a paper towel.

Damage to the Tank O Rings

Another issue that might cause a vape tank leak is damage to the O-ring. These rings are typically made from rubber and can be found at both the top and bottom of the tank.

These rings can be torn or damaged in any number of ways. When the O-ring becomes damaged, the air seal breaks and juice will be sure to leak.

We live in a time of easy access to replacement parts, which makes this a simple problem to remedy. New rings can be ordered online. And, once you've had yours delivered, it's as simple as removing the tank, unseating the old ring, and replacing it with the new one.

Laying Tanks Horizontal for extended period of time

Our third problem is also extremely common. When storing or transporting your device, take care that it doesn't spend too much time horizontal. This has been shown to cause these devices to leak, if not immediately then certainly over time.

If the tank is stored like this for any prolonged period of time, the juices tend to leak from any air holes in the device. To safeguard against this problem, always keep your tank stored "standing up" so as to avoid horizontal positioning.

Defects from Manufacturer

Of course, the problem could always be something less clearcut. Coils may come off the production line with certain defects built into them before you ever buy them. Alternatively, the coil might be old and in need of replacement. Either way, the result is the same: juice that doesn't wick properly through the system.

To solve this problem before it becomes a much bigger problem, check that your coils are tightened. If the device begins to leak and you ascertain it's the coil's problem, replace the coil immediately. If your vape keeps leaking, consider having a professional examine some of the other parts for defects.

Maintenance & Cleaning Your Vape Tank

Last on our list is the issue of maintenance. Like any other electronic device that sees a lot of action, it's advisable to maintain your vape. This is especially true for the tank.

Use the tank and forget to clean it, and the juice residue may cause problems with the tank's air seal. This will lead to leaks. This is why it's recommended to put cleanliness first, rinsing the tank with cold water and drying it overnight on a regular schedule.
