How to Choose the Best E-liquid?

Posted by Courtney McElligott on

When it comes to vaping, choosing which type of e-liquid is not an easy task to do. It’s all about personal preference and a lot of factors come into play. The quality of the e-liquid should be of major concern, we highly urge all customers to only use USA made e liquids. As we feel that we and even our competition that’s in the US is creating better eliquid than what you can find outside of the US. There is a reason if the eliquid is at a price that seems too good to be true. E-liquid goes by many names - E-vapor, e-juice, e-liquid, nicotine liquid or a smoke juice, but all serve the same purpose.

The purpose of e-liquids is to produce a satisfying delivery of flavor, and nicotine. Whether you are brand new to vaping or experienced, it is important to consider a few things when choosing an e-liquid.

First of all, which flavor?! That’s by far the hardest as there are so many options and some real life items just cannot be duplicated and translated in an ejuice, but they can still get pretty close to the real thing. So start with some of your favorite foods/ fruits. If you can’t imagine a fruity vape, you may want to start out with a tobacco flavor first to lessen the shock of the transition.

Second, which PG/VG ratio to get your liquid in. As we broke down in one of our previous blog posts, the PG will give the user a slightly stronger throat hit but also carries the flavor slightly better. Higher levels of VG are great if you’re using a sub ohm tank or an RDA because of its thicker viscosity. It creates more vapor and has a smoother hit. Our standard is 50/50 which we believe is the perfect mix of those two experiences, and is the best place to start as a beginner.

Third, what nicotine level to start out at. We typically suggest starting at a 12-18mg of nicotine purely for you to become satisfied with your ecig, and to lessen the desire to use a traditional cigarette. You will soon find what you’re level needs to be at, if you’re craving more then you may need to step up a level. If using the ecig is hurting your throat and you are getting a head rush feeling, you should step down a level. Continue that process until you’ve determined what a good level for you is.

  1. Vegetable glycerin (VG)
  2. Propylene glycol (PG)
  3. Natural and Artificial Flavors
  4. Nicotine

Many e-liquids come with four ingredients only - nicotine, flavorings, water and a propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerine (VG) base. Don’t go with e-liquids with more than 6 key ingredients. It is a sign of poor unrefined e-liquid quality.

Let’s break down the e liquid ingredients in detail.

  • Vegetable glycerin (VG): VG is used in various food and healthcare products and is FDA approved. It is a plant based substance and is sometimes derived from coconut or palm oil.Vegetable glycerin is used as a base or carrier for both the flavors and the nicotine. VG produces thick vapor due to its thicker consistency.
  • Propylene glycol (PG): PG is also used as a base carrier for the nicotine. It is widely used as an additive in food and medicines. PG does not interfere with the flavor infusion as it is odorless and flavorless.
  • Flavor: Food flavorings are added to e-liquids to create a specific taste. Natural and artificial flavorings are used and there are countless flavors available.
  • Nicotine: Nicotine is derived from the tobacco leaf. E-liquids contain 0 mg of nicotine to 24 mg of nicotine, sometimes even higher.
