Vaping has grown into one of the most popular hobbies for adults 21+, and a big part of the appeal is the e-liquid itself. The juice is where the flavor, the throat feel, and the kind of vapor you get all come from, so it pays to understand what you're actually buying.

If you're new to it, the labels can read like chemistry homework. Percentages, milligrams, PG, VG. Here's a plain-English walk through every part of an e-liquid bottle, how to match one to the device you already own, and how to try flavors without ending up with a shelf of half-used bottles.

Liquid Bases: PG and VG

Open almost any bottle of e-liquid and the base will be Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), or a blend of the two. They sound technical, but both show up all over everyday products. PG is used as a carrier in food flavorings and many personal-care items, and VG is a common sweetener and thickener. Both PG and VG are FDA-GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) for use in food — that's a food-additive fact, not a claim about vapor products.

Nearly every e-liquid is built on these bases. A bottle is usually 100% of one or, more often, a specific ratio of both.

PG vs VG: What Each One Does

Both bases carry flavor and nicotine well. The difference is in how they feel and what comes out of the device.

PG is the thinner of the two. It gives a sharper throat hit on the inhale and produces a tighter, less billowy vapor. Because of that firmer hit, you'll see higher-PG blends paired with tobacco-style flavors and lower-powered mouth-to-lung devices.

The Middle-Ground Blend

Flavor is the part most people fall for. The range is enormous: tobacco and menthol, fruit, dessert, candy, bakery, even profiles built to taste like familiar drinks.
